Promote freedom on the road and make a real statement:

Don’t Tread on Me!

The founding generation understood a thing or two about sacrifice, service, and unwavering devotion to principle.

While valiant patriots have carried many iconic flags into battle from the War of Independence to today, few symbols of freedom are as legendary as the coiled snake and one of the most powerful phrases ever written:

DONT TREAD ON ME

While the founding generation may no longer be with us, their unwavering resolve and love of liberty are still with us, riding in the hearts of patriots like us.

Your purchase of an official Kansas Gadsden Flag License Plate today as part of your car, truck, or motorcycle’s vehicle registration carries on the fight for freedom our founding fathers gave their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to achieve!

This distinctive plate proudly features the iconic Gadsden flag’s diamondback emblem and DONT TREAD ON ME to the left of your plate number, with Kansas State Rifle Association spelled out along the bottom as the proud sponsor of the plate.

At only $25, the annual fee for this plate is significantly lower than some other plates available for purchase and will just be included in future renewals so you don’t have to worry about losing your plate once you have it!

The difference is, when you hand over your hard-earned money so the State of Kansas can send you your very own shiny yellow plate in the mail, you can go to sleep at night knowing that your donation is already hard at work defending the right to keep and bear arms for yourself and future generations!

The Kansas State Rifle Association has been around since 1928, hard at work promoting the shooting sports and lawful firearm ownership.

As the only active, effective, Kansas-focused Second Amendment organization, the KSRA’s mission has grown over the decades to include defending the Second Amendment in the halls of the Kansas Legislature, promoting the shooting sports, sponsoring competitions and matches, funding and organizing youth and women’s shooting programs, and encouraging quality firearm safety and training from one end of the state to another.

Your purchase of a Gadsden Flag distinctive plate and each year’s annual renewal fee significantly impacts our ability to continue our mission.

Go ahead! Pull the trigger and support your Kansas State Rifle Association financially by purchasing a new Gadsden Flag license plate!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to wait until my normal tag renewal to request a Gadsden plate?

No! You can head to your County Treasurer’s office right away, request a Gadsden “Don’t Tread on Me” plate, pay the appropriate fees, and get your new plates in the mail in a few days. No need to wait until your normal renewal schedule to start sharing the message of freedom on the road!

How do I get the Gadsden plate?

Go to your local County Treasurer’s office as you normally do to renew your tags. While you are there, let them know you are switching to the new Gadsden Flag or “Don’t Tread on Me” distinctive plate. You will be required to surrender your current tag at that time and you will be issued a temporary tag. Your new Gadsden Flag plate will be mailed to you by the State of Kansas within a few weeks.

How much does a plate cost?

The State of Kansas requires a one-time base (production) fee of $40 for distinctive plates which is due upon initial application and issuance. The KSRA donation associated with this tag is $25. Those costs are in addition to your standard registration fees and property taxes.

When you request a Gadsden plate for the first time, you will pay:
Your normal vehicle registration fee + $25 donation to the KSRA + $40 production fee.

When you renew your existing Gadsden plate next year, you will pay:
Your normal vehicle registration fee + $25 donation to the KSRA

What will my $25 donation support?

Donations associated with distinctive license plates in Kansas help fund a variety of causes. Some plates require donations of $35-$50 per plate per year. Kansans requesting or renewing a Gadsden plate will only pay a $25 donation. That donation is passed along to your Kansas State Rifle Association.

Your KSRA has long seen the significance of the message of freedom symbolized by the “Don’t Tread on Me” battle cry and has covered all initial costs associated with creating the Gadsden Flag license plate. Donations will first go towards defraying those expenses. We believe the Gadsden Flag plate should be a common sight on the highways and the dirt roads of Kansas so additional funds will be used to further-promote the plate. We’re thrilled to see thousands of trucks, cars, and motorcycles of freedom-loving Americans sporting the Gadsden Flag. Additional donations beyond those expenses will be invested in pursuing the Kansas State Rifle Association’s overarching mission of defending the right to keep and bear arms in Kansas.

How do I renew my Gadsden Flag plate?

Initial purchase of a distinctive plate must be done in-person at your County Treasurer’s office. However, as long as you are not making significant changes (new vehicle, etc.), renewals in future years can be done by mail or online like a standard tag. You will receive specific instructions with your renewal notice.

Are these plates available for motorcycles?

Yes! We hope if you’re a freedom-loving patriot who takes to the road on two wheels, you’ll request a DONT TREAD ON ME plate for your motorcycle! The process is the same as if you were to request a plate for a pickup, SUV, car, or other passenger vehicle.

Are these plates available for trailers or commercial vehicles?

Unfortunately, these tags are not available for trailers or commercial vehicles at this time.

Can I personalize my Gadsden Flag plate or get a special number?

Unfortunately, these plates cannot be personalized at this time. However, we were successful in getting legislation (House Bill 2346) passed in 2023 to change that! Starting January 1, 2025, you will be able to request a personalized Gadsden Flag plate!

What if I want to get plates for multiple vehicles?

The process to get the Gadsden Flag plate is the same for each vehicle. For the initial purchase, you’ll pay the registration fee, plus the $25 donation, plus the production fee for each vehicle. Unfortunately, there is no price break for multiple purchases. For future renewals, you’ll only pay the registration fees and $25 donation for each vehicle.
